The MLB draft is coming fast and Sportsvival is here to help go over the top prospects in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Today we scout:
LHP- Jamie Arnold
Florida State
6’1” 188 lbs
Arnold attended Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida. During his high school career he played basketball and baseball. As a senior in 2022, the young lefty compiled a 2.02 ERA while striking out 91 hitters in 66 innings.
Arnold did not get selected in the 2022 MLB Draft and enrolled to play baseball at Florida State University.
As a freshman at Florida State in 2023, Arnold appeared in 24 games and went 2–5 with a 6.34 ERA over 44 innings.
As a sophomore in 2024, Arnold started 18 games and posted an 11–3 record, a 2.98 ERA, and 159 strikeouts over 105 ⅔ innings and was named an All-American.
So far this season, the junior Seminole lefty is 4-1 with a 2.40 ERA in eight starts. He has 57 strikeouts in 41 ⅓ innings for Florida State.
What does the tape say?
Positives
He can hit 97 mph with a fastball that has a ton of life to it.
A dominating sweeping breaking ball with a tight spin that is hard for hitters to pick up. It has 18-20 inches of movement
He has a full toolbox of pitches including two fastballs, a slider, a changeup and a sweeping curveball
He has good mechanics and repeats his delivery each time
Weaknesses
His command can be spotty at times and is the one area that needs improvement before reaching the majors.
He can leave fastballs up in the zone
What the Vival sees
Sportsvival likes how Arnold works on the mound and reminds us of LA Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw.
Arnold has a chance to go 1.1 in this hitter loaded draft.
