Sportsvival…What Does it Mean?

"If not for sports, how would we survive?" is a simple phrase that many sports fans live by.

Since I was a young kid, I have lived my life from sports season to season. Most people have spring, summer, fall and winter, I have super bowl, spring training, NFL Draft and NHL and NBA playoffs.

Sports has been my lifeline since around age five when I got to see my local teams the Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers win championships in 1979. I saw the way my father and grand pap were on edge and ecstatic as both teams won the ultimate prize in both leagues. I saw the way it brought our family together and the love they had for both teams.

As I grew older, I started to love not just the games, but how each team was built. I live for the draft in all four major sports and how each team builds and constructs their rosters. There is nothing better than reading the transactions each day and watching the collegiate games, knowing they were going to be drafted into the leagues.

Like everybody else I have had some tough moments in life, and it always seemed like sports was there. Sports always gives you something to look forward to and even though there can be some letdowns it is a never entity that.

On my father's death bed in 2015, he looked at me and said "son do something you want to do in life, because I never did."

Sportsvival is what I want to do and sports was my first love in life (sorry to my beautiful family) …but if not for sports, how would I survive?...
