Pirates walk off Yankees in 11th inning

The Pittsburgh Pirates were up 4-1 in the 9th inning when the Yankees scored three runs on relief pitcher Ryan Borucki, including a two-run single by Trent Grisham with two outs. 

Both teams were unable to score in the 10th inning and the Pirates Joey Wentz was able to hold the Yankees in the top of the 11th. In the bottom of the 11th inning, Jack Suwinski was the automatic runner on second base and stole third base with one out for the Pirates. Tommy Pham was able to drive a pitch off the base of the left field wall to win the game for Pittsburgh. Pham was only hitting .069 at the time of the game winning hit but ended up with two RBI’s on the game.

Pirates starting pitcher Andrew Heaney pitched seven strong innings, striking out 10 and only giving up one earned run.

The winning pitcher for the Pirates was Joey Wentz (1-1) and Devin Williams (0-1) took the loss for the Yankees.
